I’ve been in the recreation business for more than 20 years, and one thing I know for certain: People have a big misperception about recreation.

Recreation isn’t just sports leagues and swim lessons. Rather, recreation is a broad offering of classes, workshops and events from the arts to the sciences and everything in between.

If you have an interest, chances are a Parks and Recreation Department can meet your need – often at reduced prices! Typically, they have an online guide that you can check out and get registered.

Wellness is a balanced life that includes play. Play offers health benefits, creates joy and gives purpose to your being. Through this blog, I hope to connect you to the various opportunities that Parks and Recreation can offer.

Lorie Gregor is the recreation coordinator for Grand Junction Parks and Recreation. A Fruita resident, she looks in awe daily at the beauty of the surrounding landscape and is a true mountain mama at heart! Loves include her husband, son and dog, while hiking, camping and boating.
